TITLE:                          Business Coach
LOCATION:                 Location independent inside LiftFund’s 13 state footprint
REPORTS TO:              Senior Director of Business Support
RESPONSIVE TO:        LiftFund field members and clients


The primary role of the Business Coach is to provide trusted guidance to small business owners that are LiftFund applicants and borrowers to help them overcome challenges and improve their business acumen so that they can stabilize and grow their businesses. The Business Coach is tasked with providing knowledge, tools, resources and accountability to entrepreneurs on a variety of small business topics including financials, marketing and sales, and management. The Business Coach is a key component of LiftFund’s mission to provide business education and to empower small business owners with the resources needed to succeed. The Business Coach is responsible for tracking and reporting the amount of time spent with clients in in-person and virtual settings, and reporting the long term impact of services provided to the client for LiftFund to share with key stakeholders.


  • Manage a portfolio of clients, providing direct business and financial coaching.
  • Develop content for LiftFund’s learning management systems (LMS).
  • Utilize LiftFund’s LMS in a blended learning approach with clients.
  • Conduct Client Site Visits to build rapport, provide education, and observe business operations.
  • Collaborate with Business Support and Lending teams to provide coordinated client education and assistance.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and third party consultants to negotiate and prepare consulting contracts.  Effectively manage these contracts to ensure satisfaction and impact.
  • Work with clients and team members to collect documents outlined in the loan’s financial covenants. Provide feedback and coaching on these financials with customers.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct group training classes and webinars for customers.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of data. Prepare reports, briefings and presentations as needed in connection with educating LiftFund key stakeholders about LiftFund’s Business Support Services.
  • Ability to provide direct training in the disciplines of financial management including but not limited to cash flow planning, breakeven and profitability analysis, understanding costs, comparing historical financial trends and industry benchmarks.
  • Ability to provide direct training on marketing management, developing a marketing plan, market research, and sales and promotion. 
  • Ability to provide direct training on business management principles, creating systems for sustainability and growth, and hiring and managing employees.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience coaching or consulting small businesses, owning or managing a small business, or other related experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • A four-year college degree in business; master’s preferred
  • Extraordinary communication skills, written and verbal, at varying levels with diverse populations of clientele and community partners, in both small and large groups.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.
